Hagerstown Debut No Better for the #7 Shamrock Inn/ 1520 AM Vegas Radio Ford Thunderbird

I just would like to thank Chuckie Johnson, Travis, Farith, Bobby, etc for all the help Friday. Friday races are tough with working in DC and trying to get to the track. I under estimated getting to the track myself, but big thanks to those guys for getting the car ready when I finally made it to the track.

It was just pretty miserable Friday night for me. I started 6th in the first heat and even before we went green, whoever was in about 9th, hit whoever was in 7th coming to the green flag. I had to check up as the car was being pushed into me. Then after the green flag, coming out of two, two cars collided again and I had to brake to avoid nailing them. Pretty much heat was over- caution free heat race and I was back too far to recover.

Then I started the first of two consi's in 3rd and they were taking 3. I didn't even see who was in the consi, I didn't care, I was just determined to finish top 3. So I was behind Danny Beavers, and I think Wayne Hawbaker started outside pole. We went green and Wayne pulled Kenny Dayhoff and Kevin Keffer on the top side. I battled with Beaver for a couple laps, then Keffer, Dayhoff, Hawbaker and I went at it. I said to myself out of these 5 pretty good drivers/ cars, two of us are going on the trailer. Hawbaker was in third and I was just planning my move. I raced him clean, I could have gave him a nudge a few times, but I wanted to pass for a transfer spot clean, no sense in making enemies in the first race. Maybe Wayne knows how I raced him and I got a little respect back from the end of last year and he will race me the same later this year. I wanted to send it in high, and then come down low, but each time he kept right on the bottom throughout the corners and that was it. I should have tried passing high, but i ran out of laps racing Hollywood.

Sorry to everyone. I feel terrible. It was amazing the differences in cars in consi 1 compared to consi 2. We had 4 cars that finished in the top 16 in points last year in the first one. They usually dump us all in one and that would seem to be a more fair way to do it.

The car felt good but I didn't get the job done. Gonna be a long week waiting to get back out there.

I did start to feel better seeing the only other Ford (and Thunderbird) charging through the field.  Tony Catlett qualified the lone Ford in the field in 16th.  Showing no fear, he ran his new Thunderbird as hard as he could.  By lap 17, the Elliott schemed 6C made it all the way to 8th and was going on the high side of the Shamrock Inn #3 Chevy driven by the fearless Bobby Taylor.  Tony, who was pitching the car sideways a great deal, had to stab the brakes in 3 and 4 and it quickly upset the car.  The Tbird went around (like we have seen the 28 do so many times!), and collected the #5 of Dayhoff and #88 of Ray Priest (Winchester car).  So for us Ford guys, the night went from bad to worse- then our close friend Steve Kent, who drives a Late Model Sportsman, had his nose tangled under his car at Lincoln causing a DNQ for that Ford too.  But we aren't quitters.  Steve's car is back together and Tony came down to Brunswick on Sunday to pick up an old used nose piece from me and I think both cars are already back together.  Clayton and I have already washed the #7, so the rest of the week will be spent finding some more speed.

Sorry again.

Brian
